Lisa Hannigan is in celebratory mood this week after completing her debut solo album.
“I’ve been drinking,” she confirms on her MySpace. “We’ve just finished recording today and are dancing round to the rough mixes that the lovely Jason is getting together. Tomo has made delicious cocktails and family and friends are gathering to have a little listen and help us drink them. A lovelier bunch of people I couldn’t have hoped to play and spend my days with. There’s a long way to go, what with mixing and mastering and sewing and all, but I’ll wrap up this happy day and keep it in my pocket always. Schapps ahoy!”
In case you’re not au fait with Lisa’s inner circle, Tommo is American-born, Irish-domiciled percussionist Tom Osander and Jason is Mr & Mrs Boshoff’s little boy who engineered the sessions in Dublin’s Cauldron studio. Also playing on the album are Vyvienne Long and Shane Fitzsimons who, like, Tommo she knows from her Damien Rice days.
Nothing’s set in concrete yet, but if all goes according to plan the album should be in the shops by October.
“I want it to come out as soon as possible,” Hannigan deadpans, “so I can sing in venues more socially acceptable than Superquinn and the Luas station.”
Next week finds her off to London where the mixing and mastering she referred to is taking place in The Strongroom whose other high profile clients include Kylie, Pet Shop Boys, The Who and The Kooks.
