There’s an impressive sprinkling of musicians lined up for this coming weekend’s Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas taking place in Borris, Co Carlow.
Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour, Lisa Hannigan, Donal Lunny, Nick Seymour and Clive Barnes feature among an impressive list of literary figures, historians and media high-flyers for a series of provocative and stimulating events.
Gilmour will join his novelist wife Polly Sampson for Lost For Words, during which author Andrew O’Hagan will quiz the pair on key aspects of song lyrics and their creative relationship. It’s in The Ballroom on Saturday at 12 noon.
The Chapel in Borris House will host Lisa Hannigan and broadcaster Dylan Hoskins for a segment called Soundings: Holy Trinity focusing on story and song. It’s at 1.30 on Saturday.
Veteran Irish tradster Donal Lunny will be a focal point for Singing Voices in The Ballroom on Saturday at 7.30, alongside Nicholas Carolan and Nuala O’Connor, while former Crowded House stalwart Nick Seymour will join noted Irish guitarists Clive Barnes and Conor Brady as The Colour Wheel at The Granary on Sunday at 3.30. Sunday will also see comedian Tommy Tiernan and storytelling maestro Kevin Barry in search of answers to questions that may not have been asked yet. That’s at 12.50 on Sunday in The Ballroom.
The literary side of the Borris House festival will include must-see appearances by renowned biographist Victoria Glendinning, Ian McEwan, Anne Enright, Michael Harding, Roy Foster, Anthony Beevor, Belinda McKeon, AC Grayling and many others.
