beautiful comeback from the British Bright eyes
Heralded by Elbow’s Guy Garvey as the UK’s answer to Bright Eyes, Manchester wunderkind Liam Frost has a lot of hype to live up to. Having already made something of a name for himself playing in punk bands in the drinking dens of Manchester, our Liam decided to do a “Frank Turner” a few years ago and turn his back on the genre and it was a choice that has pretty much changed his life.
We Ain’t Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain is a gorgeous record, dripping with romantic sentiment. Frost’s impassioned delivery elevates songs such as ‘Two Hearts,’ ‘Sparks’ and ‘Held Tightly In Your Fist,’ with the singer sometimes spitting out his words to powerful effect. The guitar-work is excellent as well and ‘Skylark Avenue’ even calls to mind Hendrix’s mellower moments. But the highlight has to be the superb ‘Your Hand In Mine.’ Co-written by Ed Harcourt, it features an excellent duet with Martha Wainwright. If we get a few more records like this down the line, Mr Gallagher won’t be the only famous Liam from Manchester.
