Far Off Country
Eno endorsed debut is a forgettable affair
Despite featuring a typically lush sound courtesy of the high wizard of production, Brian Eno, as well as some nice, goosebump-inducing ethereal vocals from singer Sandra O’Neill, Letka’s debut Far Off Country is a slim volume. A six-track collection of original offerings and covers, fusing country and folk music with ambient soundscapes, it never rises above the description ‘interesting’. The ghostly re-imagining of John Denver’s ‘Country Roads’ is the strongest offering, but for the most part I am left wondering what the urgency to get this record out might have been.
