The handsome actor, philanthropist and producer will feature the film on the latest global carbon emissions scandal
Just last month, the world was awakened to auto company, Volkswagen's falsification of recorded carbon emissions.
On Septemer 18, the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency issued a Notice of Violation of the Clean Air Act to Volkswagen. The makers of the car model altered the diesel engine in order for the automobile to meet the carbon emission requirements during the standardized test in the US. This engine was specifically constructed to conform to the stipulations of the US's Clean Air Act, however, it was discovered that while driving, the car's emissions were actually much higher. In addition to manipulate the emissions rates in the US, Germany's transport minister also contests that the numbers were manipulated in Europe as well.
The Volkswagen scandal caused the auto corporation's share price to plummet exponentially, has ousted the company's chief executive, and has elicited a large number of investigations around the world.
Now, not only is a book being written about the shocking series of events, but film rights have been bought by Leonardo DiCaprio's production company. Paramount Pictures will also be involved with bringing the story to the big screens.
In the past, DiCaprio has been featured in famous films Wolf of Wall Street, Inception, The Departed, Titanic and Blood Diamond. His newest film, The Revenant is scheduled to be released in theatres in December.
DiCaprio is known as a staunch environmentalist. His self-titled foundation supports green initiatives, sustainability and environmental preservation. This past summer, the handsome actor's organization raised just over $40 million to save the environment.
