Formed in Dublin in 2013, grunge-inspired rockers Liers were originally the backing group for vocalist Liz Seaver, although they’ve since morphed into a tight, irrepressible unit with a nice (well, nasty) line in scalding riffs. They’re aiming to have a new single out by the end of the summer, which will be the follow-up to their first ‘Universal Female’. “The single really is a good representation of what we are as a band now,” says Liz. “But it’s also a stand-alone song that deals with the repression of being a woman in the country. I think it’s a topic on everyone’s conscience at the moment, especially with the Repeal referendum coming up.”
Liers’ powerful sound mixes intense vocals with thunderous guitar chords, and contains elements of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. “It’s the stuff we love to play,” enthuses Seaver. “You want to perform the stuff that you adore the sound of, whether it’s live or in the studio. We’ve been creating and refining together – I may be the writer and have experience as a solo artist, but my ideas will change entirely once I introduce them to the rest of the lads. That makes our sound very distinctive.”
It’s an exciting time for Irish music, and LIERS are just one of the many bands out here bringing a fresh vibe to pubs and clubs.

“I think the country has broken out of the whole singer-songwriter vibe, which there’s absolutely nothing wrong with, but it’s nice to see progression in other genres too.”
The band recently completed the recording process for their upcoming EP. “‘Universal Female’ was actually our way of testing the waters,” says Liz. “We wanted to see how it would be received. We’ll definitely have another release soon too, and then we’ll prepare for the festival circuit.”
