The Kings of Leon have confirmed their status as one of the biggest bands in the world 2008-style, in no uncertain terms.
Released in Ireland on Friday and in the UK yesterday, already their new album Only By The Night has clocked up sales sufficient to forecast that they will inevitably top the charts by the end of the week.
"Current sales of Only By The Night are absolutely astounding," Gennaro Castaldo of HMV confirmed to Hot Press. "Just a few days into its release, it's already one of the fastest selling albums of 2008. We estimate that by the end of the week, in the UK, it will have shifted the best part of 250,000 copies – this year only Coldplay's Viva La Vida has sold more in its first week.

"At a time when some commentators suggest CD sales are in long-term decline, this is quite an achievement," Castaldo added. "It shows that many music fans are just as happy to buy albums in physical format as they are to download them."
