If it's ceol agus craic you’re after, look no further than the Kilkenny TradFest 2014, which brings a superb range of musicians to the medieval city over the St. Patrick’s Weekend.
Kicking things off on March 14 is a free open air concert headlined by Kíla, the legendary Irish seven-piece who’ve slayed live audiences worldwide.
Following the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade which commences at 1pm from MacDonagh Junction, the Festival Stage in the Castle Park will feature young performers Ryan Thomas and Alan Hayes along with established festival favourites Beoga. Again, like the majority of TradFest gigs, admission is free.
Elsewhere, the local vintners have joined forces to put together an extensive TradTrail showcasing yet more local talent; music workshops take place on Saturday and Sunday in Kilkenny Castle’s Parade Tower; the Town Hall hosts a range of children’s activities and the Oscar-nominated short film, The Secret Of Kells, gets a screening in the SET Theatre.
