Grabbing the No.1 spot in Ireland may be a bigger deal (or not!), but the young star from Canada has had an astonishingly good week on Spotify too...
Justin Bieber has broken the record for the number of Spotify streams in a week. Indeed, his new single ‘What Do You Mean?' – which went straight to No.1 in the Irish charts this week – was streamed a world record-shattering 21 million times in just five days since it was made available on Spotify.
This breaks the record set by One Direction with ‘Drag Me Down’, which was streamed 20 million times.
Bieber’s 'daily plays' tally for the 5 day period was 4,309,495.
The singer, who has had a bruising couple of years, in which controversies have dogged him, appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during the week. He confessed to the talk show host that he was taken aback at the reaction to his MTV Video Music Awards appearance on Sunday last. It was "so overwhelming for me," he recounted. “I just wasn’t expecting them to support me the way they did.”

‘What Do You Mean?’ is now No.1 in the Global Spotify Top 50.
There are plans to release a new album on November 13 – in perfect time, you might say, to take the Christmas market by storm.
