Hot Press favourite Julie Feeney - whose superb 13 Songs took the inaugural Chioice Award earlier this year - and Humanzi have been picked by RTÉ 2fm to be Ireland's main representatives at the annual Eurosonic Festival.
There were 14,800 tickets sold for Eurosonic 2006, with 32 countries represented at what is a unique showcase for artists. Now in its 9th year, on this occasion the Eurosonic Festival will take place in Groningen in the very North of Holland, on January 11 and 12, 2007.
Julie Feeney and Humanzi both play on 11 January and RTÉ 2FM will carry their shows live from Holland into Dan Hegarty’s show on the night. RTÉ 2FM’s backing means the show is recorded and distributed to all major European radio stations, that the bands play in one of the prime venues. “The artists receive considerable financial backing from RTÉ 2FM towards their costs in going to Holland,” an RTE spokesperson revealed.
With many major promoters, agents and radio stations in Europe scheduled to be in attendance, Eurosonic represents a real opportunity for acts to make an impression on key influencers in the business. So far 30 radio stations from all over Europe have nominated 36 acts, and six of the most high tech mobile recording vehicles and their crews are being provided to record the main artists over the two days. Add this to the live radio from eight different national radio stations, plus full live internet all through the event, this makes Eurosonic the biggest radio event of the year. All the EBU radio station nominated acts can be listened to via the RTÉ 2FM website or Eurosonic.net
