So Runs the World Away is out here in April.
Josh Ritter has confirmed the April 23 release of his So Runs The World Away, which will be accompanied by visits to The Live Lounge, Radisson Hotel, Galway (April 24); Dolan’s, Limerick (25); Grand Canal Theatre, Dublin (27); Festival Marquee, Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Belfast (29); and the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny (30).
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Tuesday February 9.
Support everywhere apart from Kilkenny is provided by Joe Pug, a.k.a. Chicago singer-songwriter Joe Pugliese.
The collection was jointly assembled over a 15 month period in Maine and Brooklyn.
“I think of the songs on So Runs the World Away like pictures painted in oil on large canvasses,” Ritter reflects. “It’s a record preoccupied with the extremes of scale, from infinitesimal particles to the nearly incomprehensible distances between the head of a pin and a nebula. Where the songs felt large to me, I wanted them to be huge, both musically and lyrically. I wanted them to feel like the steel hulls of massive ships sliding by deeply from below. Where they were small, I concentrated on the smallest details that I could and we tried to make the music and the words work together. I love writing, and this is the most fulfilling record I’ve written yet.”
