Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will likely be back on screens in 2016.
While it won't be Top Gear in name – the BBC own the rights to that – Amazon Prime's forthcoming car series will very much be 'Top Gear' in spirit.
News has broken that the former hosts of the hugely popular show, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, have reached an agreement with the subscription video service.
They departed the BBC in acrimony this year, as Hammond and May decided to support Clarkson following his dismissal for punching producer Oisin Tymon.
Their new, as-yet-unnamed series will follow the unscripted, auto-based format they have become known for, with Amazon fending off competition from the likes of Netflix to secure their signatures. Amazon Prime is not currently available in Ireland.
The show will be produced by Andy Willman, the former Top Gear exec credited with its developing the show, but will not feature The Stig.
Clarkson commented today: "I feel like I’ve climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship."
Hammond said: "Amazon? Oh yes. I have already been there. I got bitten by a bullet ant."
James May added: "We have become part of the new age of smart TV. Ironic, isn’t it?"
With that kind of banter, it's sure to be a hit.
I'm very excited to announce that Hammond, May and I have signed a deal with .@AmazonVideo
