It includes covers of classic Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Led Zep and Sly & The Family Stone tunes
The massive news for Jeff Buckley fans is that Columbia/Legacy Recordings have announced the March 16, 2016 release of You & I, a 10-tracker mainly comprising of cover versions along with alternate versions of his own ‘Grace’ and ‘Dream Of You And I’.
Those covers are Bob Dylan’s ‘Just Like A Woman’, Sly & The Family Stone’s ‘Everyday People’, Louis Jordan’s ‘Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Cryin’’, Jevetta Steele’s ‘Calling You’, The Smiths’ ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’ and ‘I Know It’s Over’, Bukka White’s ‘Poor Boy Long Way From Home’ and Led Zeppelin’s ‘Night Flight’.
Most of the recordings are from the early part of his career, which was tragically cut short in 1997 when Buckley drowned aged 30. The first to be previewed is that Sly cover, which finds Jeff hitting some seriously high notes.
"As we began to explore how we might celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jeff Buckley's Grace, the vault - as it still occasionally and unexpectedly will - presented us with an unbelievable gift: this 'lost' cache of studio recordings from the period," said Adam Block, President, Legacy Recordings. "We quickly realised how remarkable they were. They offer an incredible, rare glimpse of an artist, alone, in the sacred space that is the studio. There's an intimacy and an honesty to the performances that's literally breathtaking. You & I is an important addition to Jeff's recorded legacy and will be a thrill for both his devoted longtime fans and newcomers alike."
