Jedward justified the high expectations surrounding their Eurovision campaign last night, when they powered through to the final, which takes place tomorrow night
Dressed in impressive co-ordinated red sci-fi outfits, the boys pranced, danced and leapt through their hit song 'Lipstick', generating a rapturous reception from the Düsseldorf audience. For once, the Irish production matched those created by their European counterparts in terms of design, energy and impact.
RTÉ's Marty Whelan made his enjoyment of the occasion obvious, as he chortled good humouredly through the evening, after Jedward's exuberant performance. "They have been marvellous," he told viewers – and the fans all over Europe clearly agreed.
"It'll be fun," Louis Walsh had forecast before the show, a prediction that proved to be totally inadequate to the wild-eyed energy and commitment the Grimes twins brought to the Euro fray.

"It was a great performance," one RTÉ insider told Hot Press. "These guys have so much charisma it's ridiculous. We don't know yet just how good the rest of the entries will be but Jedward showed tonight that they have what it takes to compete. Now it is down to the voting and how heavily the 'neighbours' factor plays into all of that."
