Janet Jackson has become the first female African-American artist to make an album through her own new label Rhythm Nation.
Jackson's new album which is set to be released this Autumn will be her first in seven years and is a follow-up to her 2008 record Discipline. Jackson's new label will be partnered with BMG and according to a statement on her website is "unlike a traditional record deal, under an artist services deal the artist retains ownership of their recordings and full oversight of all costs and revenues"
With speculation growing as to what the album will be called, Jackson released a video trailer of planned new music stating: “I promised you’d hear it from my lips. And now you will. This year, new music, new world tour, a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going."
