The racing world is in mourning for the much-loved 41-year-old
The very sad news this morning is that the former leading Irish amateur jockey, JT McNamara, passed away during the night. He was aged 41.
Admirers have taken to Twitter to pay their respects.
“Gutted to hear of the passing of JT McNamara. A hero and a fantastic jockey,” says Luke Thomas, while Kate McGrath notes: “What a lovely man and a superb jockey.”
Proffers Patrick Lynn: “So sad to see a jockey pass away after losing his independence and livelihood while riding - shows how tough the sport is.”
The father-of-three was paralysed from the neck down after being thrown from his horse, Galaxy Rock, at the Cheltenham Festival on March 14, 2013.
He had been seriously unwell since Friday. We’ll have more reaction to his passing as the day progresses.
