Imelda May shines at the Grammys

She performed live with Jeff Beck.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 01 Feb 2010

Imelda May – who’s interviewed in the current issue of Hot Press – made a huge impression last night at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles when she joined Jeff Beck for a Les Paul-saluting version of ‘How High The Moon’.

It was a joyous occasion for Beck whose cover of ‘A Day In The Life’ picked up the Best Rock Instrumental Performance Grammy.

The performance was watched by a live TV audience of 120 million, with a few hundred thousand more getting to see Imelda tonight at 7pm when the highlights go out on RTÉ Two.

Making history in The Staples Center was Beyoncé who scooped a record six awards. Also thanking their record companies, families and God were Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, Kings Of Leon, Green Day, Jay-Z, Jason Mraz, Black Eyed Peas, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, and Eminem who between them bagged most of the major gongs.

There was also a 3D tribute to Michael Jackson, which featured Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood and Usher performing ‘Earth Song’, and a Haiti-benefiting Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli duet version of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ that can be downloaded from iTunes.
