Season Three will see the introduction of new characters, the reintroduction of an old favorite, and major changes for the main cast.
The hit cartoon series set five years before A New Hope will return this September with major changes as the story moves forward. The hero, Ezra Bridger, voiced by Taylor Gray, seeks dark powers to destroy the Sith. Joining him on his mission will be none other than Darth Maul, voiced by Sam Witwer, who was revealed to be alive in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Nobody is sure what his plans are, but knowing Maul, they can’t be trusted.
A new character to be introduced is The Bendu, a force sensitive creature who lies somewhere in the middle of the dark and light sides of the Force. He will be voiced by Tom Baker, famous for his role as the Fourth Doctor on Doctor Who. Perhaps most exciting of all is the return of fan favorite character, Grand Admiral Thrawn, voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, from the old Star Wars Expanded Universe continuity. Rebels has been no stranger to reusing ideas from old, non canon content, with the antagonistic Inquisitors of the first two seasons retooled from the Inquisitor character from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game.
In addition to those mentioned before, Star Wars Rebels stars Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan Jarrus, Vanessa Marshall as Hera Syndulla, Steve Blum as Zeb Orrelios, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, and David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus. The show was created by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Carrie Beck.
