It has now been revealed that Saoirse Ronan will star in Hozier's video for 'Cherry Wine'. The video will be released this Valentine's day and will portray the story of a woman trapped in a physically abusive relationship. Saoirse Ronan will play the victim in question and be joined by Moe Dunford. The video will be directed by Emmy winning director, Dearbhla Walsh.
The lyrics to 'Cherry Wine' are Hozier's interpretation of what it's like to be a man subjected to abuse. A devastatingly beautiful and poignant song, all proceeds from the song will go to several international charities who provide support and help to domestic abuse victims.
Turning art into advocacy, this isn't Hozier's first time to support an incredibly worthy cause. In 2014, he made clear his stance on the Same-Sex Marriage Referendum with his video 'Take Me To Church'. The video showed the intolerance and hatred that certain members of society held for same sex couples. It was this video that proved Hozier to be a true artist, resonating with millions around the world.
Speaking of the 'Cherry Wine' video, Hozier said "Domestic violence is an ongoing issue in our society, the statistics of which are shocking and the effects of which damage whole families, communities and span generations. I’m honored to be joined by Saoirse Ronan, Dearbhla Walsh and Moe Dunford in spreading awareness on this issue".
Saoirse Ronan adds, "I am equally honored to join Hozier to create awareness for the #FaceUpToDomesticViolence campaign with the release of “Cherry Wine” as a charity single. I hope through the video and song we can shine light on the issue and complexity of domestic abuse and in doing so help those caught up in the cycle of domestic violence”.
