Inside the new Hot Press: Hozier's first cover story and U2's Songs Of Innocence reviewed, as the Irish take over...
One of the most recognisable voices in Irish music at the moment, Andrew Hozier-Byrne gets his face on the cover of Hot Press for the first time this issue. We suspect it won't be the last time. Ahead of the Friday release of his debut album, Hozier, the Wicklow star opens up to Olaf Tyaransen in an extensive piece that takes in his school days, his decision to leave college to pursue music, his meteoric rise this year (Glastonbury, Ellen, Letterman and more relived), that debut album, sex, death and more.
That is only the first heavy hitter interview in the issue. Interpol talk to Craig Fitzpatrick about David Letterman's love for the band, their "narcissistic" former member Carlos D and feeling revitalised as a three-piece, while Ellie Goulding gives Ed Power the lowdown on celebrity boyfriends and media pressure.
Keeping it Celtic, Sharon Corr discusses sibling rivalry and her brother Jim's 'interesting' political views, James Vincent McMorrow talks dodging Border Patrol near Mexico, and Groom's Mike Stevens tells us why we should be proud to be Irish.
Elsewhere in our 'Movies' section, Sherlock star Andrew Scott tells Roe McDermott about his latest big screen role and how he doesn't want to be a role model.
The Hot Press Interview this fortnight is with Sunday Independent journo Niamh Horan, who explains why the vitriol she received following her article on woman's rugby doesn't bother her.
Our flip cover with Kylie celebrates the forthcoming months of excellent live music action in the 3Arena.
Over in 'Critical Mass', editor Niall Stokes gives his take on U2's much-talked about 13th studio album Songs Of Innocence.
As ever, all of that is just for starters.
