Prince, U2, Jay Z and Kanye all feature in our sure-to-be controversial countdown... But who made it to number one?
This fortnight, we unveil our picks of the 50 Greatest Irish Gigs Of All Time... or at least in the time that Hot Press has been keeping Ireland safe for rock 'n' roll!
The exhaustive compilation of the list saw many a blazing row in Hot Press Towers and is sure to inspire much heated debate as the new issue hits newsstands but, ultimately, it stands a celebration of how truly life-changing the live experience can be. The greatest of performances can not only leave audiences with personal memories that will last a lifetime, but take on a mythology of their own and shake the foundations of society.
From The Smiths and U2 to Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson, every gig is a cast-iron classic and we relive each of them in detail, with recollections from HPers past and present as well as many of the musicians responsible.
To check out the list in its entirety – from 50 down to the show we consider to be the greatest this island has seen – and get a small taste of what we have to say about them, head for our mini-site.
Sticking with the live theme in the new Hot Press, we look at the best festivals, fondly-remembered residencies and those legendary shows that pre-date the magazine's arrival in 1978.
