High Walls & Free Falls
Irish rockers' opening shot hints a big potential
Unashamedly worshipping at the altar of Phil Lynott, Bon Scott and Paul Kossoff, Dublin-meets-Derry outfit Half Shot’s debut High Walls & Free Falls is a lairy opus indeed. It will most certainly appeal to many of the denim and leather-clad denizens of Ireland, who are so often left out of the equation here. Opening with the bullish ‘You See’ (a fine, Motörhead-infused romp if ever there was one), the four-piece deliver a solid set. They take their foot off the gas a little too much for this reviewer’s tastes, but the likes of ‘Headwrecker’ and the strutting ‘No Change’ bring-on the heavy metal thunder in style and help make up for the odd misfire like ‘Preachin’’. There is potetial here.
