RTÉ and the BBC will both be screening The Walshes, a new sitcom from the pen of Father Ted man and former Hot Press-er Graham Linehan.
Collaborating with him on the series are the Diet Of Worms sketch troupe, AKA Philippa Dunne, Amy Stephenson, Rory Connolly, Niall Gaffney and Shane Langan, who originated the Taste Of Home webcom it’s based on.
Cutting out the middleman, it’s being made by Linehan’s own Delightful Pictures in tandem with Boom Pictures, the UK company co-owned by former Controller of BBC1, Lorraine Heggessey. Graham co-directed the pilot with Blackadder man Richard Boden.
Set in the ‘80s and revolving around the titular Irish family, the conceit is it’s being camcordered by an unseen uncle. Owen Roe, who played Sean Dooley in Ballykissangel, is also on board.
