Legendary guitarist, Graham Coxon discusses soundtracks, the Gorillaz and Blur in interview.

Graham Coxon has turned his hand to soundtrack work in dark-comedy drama The End Of The F***ing World, which gained a lot of attention after its Channel 4 release and became a massive, cult hit after its transfer to Netflix.

Coxon tells us how he decided on a theme for the music as the show has no particular time period, being anywhere from the 80s to the mid-noughties. “I wanted to make some things that were big, Ennio Morricone/Scott Walker-type soundscapes,” he explains. “So I knew I wanted to go to the ‘60s. But then there was another episode that had the Buzzcocks in it, so that took me into the late ‘70s as well. Also I found myself thinking about the mood of the despondency in some parts of the show, and that gave me the idea to take an early Beck approach to some of the material.”

Coxon talks about hooking up with Blur frontman Damon Albarn on the Gorillaz album, Humanz. He hopes to do more live shows with the Gorillaz including Dublin gig in June.

Coxon was also the driving force in early stages of Blur’s comeback album, The Magic Whip, in 2015. He mentions that he enjoyed making the album and is friendly with all the band members.
