Free Music Friday

Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, Liamy G and Morrissey all gather round to kick off your weekend in style...

Free Music Friday’s week has been considerably brightened by the fab acoustic session Billy Bragg has recorded for American National Public Radio.

You can both watch and download the set, which kicks off with ‘The Handyman Blues’ and includes a superb re-jigging of Woody Guthrie’s ‘I Ain’t Got No Home In This World Anymore’.

On Trinity Street repeat this week is Radiohead: Live At Tramps, June 1, 1995, New York City.

Recorded just three months after the release of The Bends it’s an 18-track name your price monster that includes particularly wonderful versions of ‘Creep’, ‘My Iron Lung’ and ‘Street Spirit’. 100% of the money raised is going to Amnesty International so no being stingy!

The server’s crashed a couple of times already because of the demand, so be prepared to check back.

The free – and we hasten to add legal – treats keep on coming with Wilco making their recent Solid Sound Festival covers set available at [link]www.nyctaper.com/2013/06/wilco-june-21-2013-solid-sound-festival-flacmp3streaming[/link]

Scroll down for the You Send It files, which are being replaced as soon as they max out.

Kicking off with Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, other highlights include Jeff Tweedy & Co.’s readings of Television’s ‘Marquee Moon’, The Replacements’ ‘Color Me Impressed’, The Beatles’ ‘And Your Bird Can Sing, ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’, Cheap Trick’s ‘Surrender’, The Band’s ‘The Weight’ and some obscure ditty called ‘Get Lucky’.

We have to say their taste is pretty damn exquisite!

This week’s hot streaming action starts at [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link] where the latest offerings from Lightning Dust, Matlas Aguayo, Bosnian Rainbows, Holdem Rose Windows and All Tiny Creatures await your listening pleasure; newbies from Daughn Gibson, Cheyenne Mize and Beautiful Swimmers can be found at [link]www.npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link]; the new-look [link]music.aol.com/#/1[/link] chips in with The Airborne Toxic Event, The Neighborhood, The Boy Least Likely To, Junip, Alice Russel, Uh Huh Baby Yeah and The Veils and [link]pitchfork.com/advance[/link] pitches in with Kirin J. Callinan and Bass Drum Of Death…

It’s not just Kodaline setting the charts alight with Drumcondra rapper Rejjie Snow number two at the moment on the iTunes Europe chart with his Rejovich EP.

The super-smooth five-tracker includes guest appearances by Jesse James and London newcomer Benjamin Loyle-Carner.

Fans of female-fronted punk bands can feast at [link]kangnave.blogspot.fr/2013/05/a-reference-of-female-fronted-punk-rock.html[/link]; LA rapper Vince Staples has his Stolen Youth album available for free [link]www.sendspace.com/file/t4vvc6[/link] download and Robert Randolph & The Family trail their Lickety Split album at [link]wxrt.cbslocal.com/2013/06/25/get-amped-up-for-robert-randolph-the-family-bands-new-album-lickety-split-free-download/[/link]

Follow the [link]www.manicstreetpreachers.com[/link] directions to bag yourself a free live version of ‘Let Robeson Sing’ that features Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys.

Out today pop fans, Bell X1’s Chop Chop can be listened to here courtesy of this handy dandy player. In case you’re wondering, it’s a belter!

Lana Del Rey’s ‘Young & Beautiful’ – which is one of the few good things about The Great Gatsby – receives a makeover from Carlos Serrano who we’re told is a bit of a ham.

Sorry, we’ll get our coats…

Editors have put together a retina-pleasing film to accompany the release of their new album, The Weight Of Love.

Out today, it’s a mean ‘n’ moody belter, with Tom Smith doing his best Ian McCulloch impersonation on a couple of the tracks.

“I’d rather go and work in fucking McDonald’s than be in a band with somebody who’s in control all the time.”

That’s just one of the zingers in Start Anew? – On The Campaign Trail With Beady Eye, a 30-minute documentary from the Noisey camp, which follows Liam and the boys as they assemble their sophomore BE album.

“I hope people like it,” Gallagher says of the collection. “If they don't like it they can go fuck themselves!”

Ah, the silver-tongued devil!

If you’re into pastoral pop whimsy, you are going to love ‘Rowing Boats’, a summery tune par excellence from In The Willows, which nods towards The Beatles’ ‘Norwegian Wood’. Hailing from Waterford, they sound like serious contenders. You can also purchase it on iTunes.

And finally, the trailer has dropped for Morrissey’s new 25: Live From Hollywood High School concert film.

Shot last March in front of 1,800 adoring fans, it’s a celebration of the quarter of a century Stephen Patrick’s been operating as a solo artist.

It hits cinema screens in August, with a DVD release to follow later in the year.

Which brings the curtain down on what, even if we say so ourselves, has been a pretty darn fantastic Free Music Friday. Keep those links and comments coming to @stuartclark66
