Vampire Weekend, Fleetwood Mac and Angel Haze are just some of the artists in a very eclectic FMF...
The world may be a scary, uncertain place this week – I mean, how can anybody relax until Everton appoint their new manager? – but we’ve some quality Free Music Friday tuneage to help you worry just that little bit less about who’s going to occupy the Goodison dug-out next season.
The ‘download’ button has sadly been disabled, but that doesn’t diminish the wonderfulness of Vampire Weekend’s KCRW Santa Monica radio gig, which has us counting down the days to their Longitude appearance even more avidly.

Pick up one of the new Fleetwood Mac Extended Play tracks for free at [link]cbswxrt2.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/fleetwood-mac-sad-angel.mp3[/link]; Bassnectar, Brassft Punk, The Bright Light Social Hour and Chancellor Warhol are among those gracing the [link]www.spin.com/articles/hangout-festival-mixtape-2013-download[/link] summer mixtape; Patty Griffin has the whole of her predominantly acoustic American Kid album streaming at [link]www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopmusic/10038631/Patty-Griffin-American-Kid-exclusive-album-stream.html[/link] and Californian psych rockers Foxygen are giving away their new single at [link]wxrt.cbslocal.com/2013/05/14/exclusive-mp3-foxygen-no-destruction-free-download[/link] but the offer’s only good until the weekend
Arcade Fire violinist Sarah Neufeld has announced the August release of her Hero Brother solo album. Judging by the freebie title-track it’s going to be a pretty avant-garde affair.

Solar Bears have a well nifty Supermigration outtake available for your free download delectation.
Angel Haze fucks Purity Ring’s ‘Lofticries’ up in a good way below. Currently assembling her debut album in NYC, we’re keeping our fingers and everything else crossed that Ms. Wilson is among next week’s batch of Electric Picnic additions.
We’d also love to cop an eyeful of Tree, another leading light of the exploding Chicago rap scene who counts Danny Brown, Roc Marciano, Lili K, Ari Lourdes and Project Mayhem among his Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out mixtape buddies.
One of the standout members of Harlem’s H.O.M.E. team, T-Shyne, drops a new mix at [link]www.hulkshare.com/bbv0s9sfs64g[/link] that also showcases plenty of his cohorts.
Soulja Boy weighs in with King Soulja, a muscular 18-track affair that’s up there with the Batesville, Mississippi man’s best.
The Disconnected Bliss come up trumps again with ‘Run’, one of the standouts from their upcoming EP, which channels both early Bowie and Two Door Cinema Club.
SoCal tunesmiths The Olms, AKA Pete Yorn and J.D. King, trail their new album at [link]www.theolmsmusic.com[/link]

Zola Jesus kindly gifts us a live band version of ‘Trust Me’ at [link]www.self-titledmag.com/2013/05/15/download-this-now-zola-jesus-trust-me-live-band-version/#more-32531[/link]
Dublin singer-songwriter Barry Finnimore has an excellent seven-tracker, What I See, which you can try before you buy below.
Yngve & The Innocent gear up for a busy summer with a free stream of their superb debut album, The Sadness Of Remembering.
Top of the Noise Trade pile this week is Old World Romance: Selects And Outtakes, a five-track sampler from Sea Wolf. Originally the sole preserve of Montreal man Alex Brown Church, the band now operate live as a four-piece and have a bit of a Bright Eyes thing going on. Which is A-OK with us.
London retro electro merchants Public Service Broadcasting treat you to a free taster from their intriguing Inform–Educate–Entertain album.
Fans of leftfield Americana are going to be all over this fabulous acoustic session by Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale who dropped by the NPR offices in support of their appropriately titled Buddy And Jim album.
After flying under our radar for the past year, we’re delighted to say a belated Free Music Friday “hello” to the Frank’s Shed TV crew from Portlaoise. Their 29th episode featuring the Radioactive Grandma can be viewed at [link]www.franksshedtv.com[/link] where you’ll also find archive acoustic sets from the likes of Bill Coleman, Crow Black Chicken, John Spillane, Nova Static, The Cujo Family and the Pat McManus Band.
We’re also wondering why we’ve never previously made the acquaintance of Girl Crisis who include Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek, Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Spring, Class Actress’ Elizabeth Harper and TEEN’s Jane Herships in their fair ranks. The New York songstresses come together twice a year to do covers – The Bangles’ ‘Walk Like An Egyptian’ being the latest – which they film on Super8 and stick on YouTube. We’re particularly fond of February 2011’s celestial re-working of Ozzy & Co.’s ‘Paranoid’. More of this kind of thing!
Filmmaker Myles O’Reilly, AKA Arbutus Yarns, jumped on the tour bus for a few days in April as Glen Hansard flitted round Italy in support of his Rhythm And Repose album.
The resulting half-hour documentary contains lots of music, laughs and stunning shots of the Coliseum in Rome.
If Mr. O’Reilly isn’t making Hollywood movies in the next few years we’ll eat our metaphorical hats.
Okay, we’ve an appointment with that charming young Bugg boy who we’re going to prod and poke until he gives us all the Ivor Novello Awards goss. Keep those links and comments coming to @stuartclark 66 and have a fabulous weekend.
