Streams from MGMT, The Stooges, Deerhunter, Phoenix and more, plus a host of extremely strong (and free) Irish acts...
Oi, can whoever nicked our summer please bring it back? On the plus side, this is the week when Electric Picnic and Oxegen both revealed their very different and very exciting musical hands.
There’s no sign, sniff, of The Postal Service coming to Ireland (yet) but they have treated us to a new [link]cbswxrt2.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/a-tattered-line-of-string.mp3[/link] tune. ‘A Tattered Line Of String’ is one of the bonus tracks on their re-released Give Up album, and most gorgeous it is too.
Noise Trade come up trumps again with a great pay what you think it’s worth set from The Milk Carton Kids who’ve been lumped in with the alt. folk explosion but have a sound all of their own. Watch ‘em fly!
Also new this week from Noise Trade is Jesse Morrow’s ‘Locked’ single and a five-track sampler from new teen country pop sensation Kayla Conn.

Larne duo Odibal have a tonne of jaunty pop tunes to be listened to at [link]soundcloud.com/odibal[/link]; their Norn Iron neighbour Stef Campbell goes the Americana route at [link]soundcloud.com/stefcampbell[/link]; grunge-era legends cover Queen, David Bowie, Queen, Black Betty and loads more at [link]www.spin.com/articles/melvins-covers-album-stream-everybody-loves-sausages-buzzo[/link]; Kid Cudi is streaming his Kendrick Lamar, RZA and Too Short-assisted album at [link]theversed.com/2013/04/17/listen-to-kid-cudis-indicud-free-album-stream[/link]; Rob Smith treats us to an ace indie mix at [link]www.mixcloud.com/robsmithireland/dj-set-recorded-in-edinburgh-april-2013[/link] and our new favourite shoegazers are giving away a track at [link]pacificuv.bandcamp.com/track/american-lovers[/link]
The best thing we heard all week is MGMT’s Record Store Day offering, ‘Alien Days’.
Carlow’s Super Normal Prophets offer up a prog/maths rock feast with their new five-tracker.
Free Music Friday is very much liking the city centre-cruising and Thin Lizzy-referencing new vid for Nugget ft Funzo’s ‘Dublin Tune’.
Rarely have so many home truths been told in the one song. More of this type of thing!
Otherkin have produced a very flashy – and flashing! – promo for ‘Lockjaw’, which probably should carry a health warning. Gonna be hearing a lot more of these chaps we reckon.
Alcatel One Touch Big Break shortlisters Third Smoke made us laugh – in a good way! – with the vid for their ‘People Are Messy’ single.
Hermitage Green have notched up 17,884 hits – and counting – with their ‘Let The Ink Flow’ Manor Sessions clip. Catch ‘em live in The Spaniard, Kinsale (April 26) and The Pavilion, Cork (27).
Our bumper crop of home produced promos continues with Niall Thomas’ ‘Spillin’ Diamonds’. Like the tune, love the AGA cooker!
Crossing the Atlantic as opposed to the road, Garbage and Screaming Females came up with this killer Record Store Day cover of Broooooce’s ‘Because The Night’.
Right, we’re off to find this sun thief. Links and comments please to @stuartclark66 and have a great weekend people!
