It features music from The Shore.
Foy Vance’s Melrose EP has just been released on iTunes with a limited-edition 10” available from Rough Trade's website.
The David Holmes-produced four-tracker provides part of the soundtrack for Terry George’s Oscar-winning short, The Shore.
“I asked Foy because Terry was looking for an Irish-themed score and after reading the script I felt that some of the songs would work brilliantly within the film alongside some of the score that had already been created,” Holmes explains. “I always thought Foy had a great voice but I had my own ideas as to how he should be using it… softer, quieter with less force. After sending him a bunch of tracks that I hoped he’d be influenced by Foy came to my studio and played me some songs he’d written. The ones I liked and felt I could contribute to were recorded at my studio in Belfast and then finished in LA.”
It’s been a very good year so far for Mr. Vance with Michael Kiwanuka and David Gray support tours and one of the EP’s standouts, ‘Midnight Starlet’, gracing MTV’s Teen Wolf.
