Ireland’s premier Obnoxious Pop combo are promising to round off the year with a very special gig. Fight Like Apes will be bringing a wrestling ring into The Academy for a fight night of body-slamming, gut-grappling, seconds out, no holds barred electronic punk rock.
Inspired by their deep love of pro-wrestling, the three guys and one girl FLA tag-team will be in performing live on canvas “in the ring”, being built in the venue for this one-off show – complete, we are assured, with special guests from the world of wrestling.
With the debut album Fight Like Apes And The Mystery Of The Golden Medallion now released in the UK, Europe, Japan and Australia, as revealed at The Music Show, where she appeared on the Songwriting: Is It Just Another Business Then? panel, FLA are currently writing new material for their second long player, which will be released in 2010.
Fight Like Apes have been nominated on the shortlist for the Best Breakthrough Artist at the UK Festival Awards. They are up against Florence and the Machine, Passion Pit, Friendly Fires and Little Boots. Our U.S. scouts also report that MTV have used FLA tracks in P Diddy’s ‘Making The Band’ and the forthcoming Halloween mini-series ‘Valemont’.
"Fight Like Apes are already in training for this slam-tastic evening of music and mayhem," promoters MCD declared. Tickets priced €19.50 including booking fee go on sale on Friday 9th October.
