Enya has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the National University of Ireland in Galway.
It was awarded to her today, Friday, at a conferring ceremony presided over by the Chancellor of the NUI and former Taoiseach, Dr. Garret Fitzgerald.
"While this University has had many outstanding honorary graduates in its history, those being honoured this year form a particularly distinguished group,” says NUI President Dr. Iognáid ó Muircheartaigh of the singer and the five other people receiving doctorates. “Their contributions in many spheres – business, the arts, music, philanthropy, justice – have been outstanding, and NUI Galway is very pleased to be in a position to recognise these exceptional individuals.”
Enya, who’s sold a staggering 70 million albums, is also set to receive an honorary degree of DLitt (Doctor of Letters) from the University of Ulster in recognition of her services to music and the creative industries.
