Tickets for Ed Sheeran's 2018 Irish tour went on sale this morning at 9am, and fans were ready. Due to large amounts of traffic on Ticketmaster websites, many fans trying to get their hands on a ticket for next year's gigs found themselves staring at a Ticketmaster screen with the message "Searching... sit tight". The long wait times were due to customers waiting in a "digital queue", a system which is supposed to ensure that everyone gets a fair shot at a ticket, especially when tickets are in such high demand. Fans took to Twitter to express their frustration, some tweeting pictures of as many as three computers set up with the Ticketmaster wait screen.
Aiken Promotions released a statement asking fans to be patient with Ticketmaster, saying, "Please bear with us as there are lots of people at outlets and lots of people online purchasing tickets and Ticketmaster are getting through everything as quickly as possible."
While some fans were stuck in a digital queue at home, many even camped out at Ticketmaster outlets around the country. Some started queuing up (in an actual queue) as early as Friday morning. Even so, according to the last statement from Aiken Promotions at 11:30 this morning, there are still tickets available. If you're one of the lucky ones who managed to snag a ticket, Ed will be kicking off his Irish tour in Cork at Pairc Ui Caoimh May 4-5 2018, before moving on to Boucher Road Playing Fields, in Belfast on May 9 and then Galway's Pearse Stadium on May 12-13. He'll be in Dublin at Phoenix Park on May 16 and 18.
