It promises to be "an illicit hooley in the heart of Temple Bar."
Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31 sees 'Down With Jazz' taking over Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, Dublin. Harking back to '30s Ireland when jazz and ‘foreign’ music was seen by the Catholic Church and Gaelic League as a filthy force of corruption, it will be an inclusive celebration of those musical rebels featuring 10 jazz, world and experimental acts.
Gates open at 7pm each night. Here is the line-up:
Saturday
Isotope: One of Ireland’s longest established jazz lineups, redefining the jazz standard.
Tongue Bundle: 6-piece Dublin band taking you on a trip through Zappa-esque terrain with free jazz and funk grooves.
Louis Stewart Quintet: Internationally renowned Irish jazz guitarist.
Jiggy: A mix of Irish traditional dance tunes and 90’s hip-hop beats led by percussionist Robbie Harris.
Mixtapes From the Underground: Fully live and improvised genre busting hip-hop collective with an incendiary live show.
Sunday
Electric Freeplay: Jazz, rock and funk fusion led by Limerick guitarist Joe O’Callaghan.
Sidiki Dembélé Sextet: Debut Irish performance by celebrated west African djembe and n’goni player, performing with members of Manden Express.
The CEO Experiment: Contemporary piano trio join forces with acclaimed saxophonist Michael Buckley.
Leo Drezden: Math rock meets synth fusion and contemporary jazz from this unique instrumental quartet.
Dublin City Jazz Orchestra: 17 piece jazz orchestra with outstanding soloists from all four sections.
