Regarding an alleged assault on a stewardess and member of the gardaí.
Dolores O'Riordan is being held by gardaí following an arrest at Shannon Airport. O'Riordan had been on an Aer Lingus flight travelling from JFK, New York, to Shannon and arriving at 4.40am. The Cranberries singer is alleged to have assaulted a female steward, as well as a member of the gardaí. The steward was injured in the incident and was brought to Mid-Western Regional Hospital for treatment.
Questioning is currently underway at Shannon Garda Station.
Some news reports are describing what happened in distinctly unflattering terms, with Independent.ie suggesting that a Garda had been head-butted and spat at during the incident. However, so far there is no word on charges being levelled against the Cranberries’ singer and so there is no confirmation of any of the details of the incident.
There is no doubt that any form of less than perfect behaviour is now being treated very differently by airlines and their staff. A fortnight ago, an Italian businessman was arrested disembarking from a flight in Dublin airport and was charged, after he had written "I have ebola" as a private joke with his fellow travellers, on a plastic cup provided by flight attendants.
