Black Light
Ex-Tunng man brings the tunes for solo effort.
Black Light is the debut full-length album from Sam Genders, former founding member of English folktronica act Tunng. Released under his latest pseudonym Diagrams, it is a lush sounding record from start to finish. Vocally, Genders’ lazy croon is reminiscent of Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals and his flair for crafting a classic melody is evident in ‘Night All Night’ and album opener ‘Ghost Lit’, both indisputable highlights. He dabbles too in jerky, syncopated rhythms and (slightly) ‘60s rock-influenced guitar riffs (‘Appetite’) ensuring that this is far from predictable. An interesting album.
