Next weekend sees the 11th installment of the Derry Jazz Festival, an event which mixes top international jazz and blues acts while also showcasing local and emerging talent.
This year’s fest, which features performances from Belfast man Van Morrison, kickstarts a series of celebratory events as the city prepares its role as UK City of Culture for 2013. Since its inception, the festival has steadily broadened its scope to include jive, swing, boogie, dance and R&B, in addition to traditional and more mainstream acts.
Also taking place in the city is the famous Guinness Jazz Trail, as well as an open-air market and various outdoor gigs. See http://www.cityofderryjazzfestival.com.
