If you're in the mood for something weird, check out this album that fuses psychedelic rock with Cambodian lyrics.
To paraphrase Bill S. Preston and Ted Theodore Logan, ,Venus On Earth sounds weird, dude. Like a big musical pie full of flavours that really work together (‘Seeing Hands,’ ‘Sober Driver’) and some that really don’t (‘Monsoon Of Perfume’) Dengue Fever have crafted a record that combines psychedelic rock with Cambodian lyrics courtesy of singer Chhom Nimol and the results are pretty damn good. Basically Venus On Earth is like a Later... With Jools Holland fan’s wet dream. They use all manner of odd little instruments, fuse world sounds together effortlessly but still manage at some point to sound like The Beatles (‘Tiger Phone Call’). If you fancy a walk on the weird side this fortnight then Dengue Fever are the band for you.
