Delorentos are doing their bit for Record Store Day on April 19 with the release of a limited-edition Unbroken, Untied acoustic CD.
Two years in the making it’s housed in a hand-stamped papier-mâché box with full colour tri-fold artwork. 147 individually numbered copies will be winging their way to Tower and Freebird in Dublin, Rollercoaster in Kilkenny, Zhivagos in Galway and Plugd in Cork, so you’ll have to drag yourself out of bed early for once!
“Roughly three years ago we were staying in an apartment in Madrid, learning cover versions of The Smiths,” the chaps say. “On our breaks, we worked on a new song called ‘Bullet In A Gun’. We tried not to over-think it and later that afternoon walked across Gran Via with an acoustic guitar and a piece of a drum-kit to record a half-finished tune on a dusty street. To be honest it was a bit out of character for a band that had almost destroyed itself by over-thinking everything.
“Acting out of character was becoming a more common occurrence for us. Having gone through a lot together, and on our own, tearing everything down in the process... we were finally finding our voice with the songs that became the album Little Sparks.
“Like anything in life, you can take being a band for granted. But it’s a gift and should be treated with care. When you get a second chance you’ve got to make the most of it. It took us a while to hit our stride but, since that street in Madrid, we’ve played these songs in churches, in pubs, on rooftops and in bedrooms and we’ve always wanted to record this album. So here they are together for the first time, old songs and new songs, stripped back and recorded in our hometown.”
As for studio album #4, expect that to drop in the autumn.
