Guitars out- Keyboards and positivity in!
American alt-indie rockers Death Cab for Cutie have announced their new album, Codes and Keys is to be released on May 27, preceded by first single 'You Are a Tourist' to come shortly. The band have had a slow rise to prominence since their debut almost thirteen years ago with last album, Narrow Stairs, becoming their first to chart both here and in the UK, as well as rising to the top of the Billboard 200 in their homeland.
The band have indicated a more experimental sound incorporating vintage keyboards, a string section and less guitar-based songs but more surprisingly after 2008's dark Narrow Stairs, a positive, uplifting vibe. Of course it helps that Cutie mainman Ben Gibbard has found domestic bliss since marrying none other than 500 Days of Summer star and all-round indie-princess Zooey Deschanel, but let's not forget Gibbard is also known in some circles for being the man behind electronica-classic 'Such Great Heights' as part of his sidelining gig in The Postal Service.
