The Belfast music man is on fire at the moment!
A David Holmes re-working of 'The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes' is one of the cuts featuring on Noel Gallagher's Where The City Meets The Sky: Chasing Yesterday The Remixes.
"It's been a great opportunity to have my songs re-worked by people whose own work I'm a huge fan of," Noel enthuses. "I've found the whole thing hugely inspiring"
Holmer enlisted a kiddies' choir to completely transform the original.
"When I first heard 'The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes' I immediately heard the influence of David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' which made me think of another great version by the Langley School's Project," he explains. "After listening to the lyrics on repeat for a few hours I thought they had a real picture book sensibility so I called my daughter's primary school choir. The kids rehearsed for five days and I stopped by and recorded it in their assembly hall!"
The school in question being St Michael's on the Ravenhill Road.
Also featuring quality reworkings from Andrew Weatherall, Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve, Psychemagick, Toy Drum and Massive Attack's 3D, it's available as a coloured (one blue, one pink) 2xLP from Noel's website or, somewhat less excitingly, iTunes.
Meanwhile, the lead track from Holmes' Unloved project's debut EP, 'Guilty Of Love', drops on October 16. We were treated to a sneak preview of the whole album recently and it's a stunner!
