Bowie's estate have announced that the unreleased album The Gouster is finally getting its debut in full.
Despite is being recorded and ready in full, The Gouster never made it to the shelves.
Tracks however were lifted from The Gouster, many of which 'morphed' into Bowie's 1975 classic, Young Americans. The Gouster comprises of 7 tracks, including a re-recording of 1972's 'John, I'm Only Dancing'. Much of this news comes courtesy of Bowie's long-time producer and friend, Tony Visconti.
Labeling the album as "40 minutes of glorious funk", The Gouster will be part and parcel of a box-set that follows on from Five Years (1969-1973) which was released in September of last year. Visconti has commented on the inspiration that the pair drew on for The Gouster. An album infused with soul for Visconti he claims it was "a word unfamiliar to me, but David knew it as a type of dress code worn by African American teens in the '60s in Chicago. In the context of the album, its meaning was attitude, an attitude of pride and hipness," he reminisced. "Of all the songs we cut, we were enamoured of the ones we chose for the album that portrayed this attitude."
The announcement was officially made through the Bowie Facebook page.
The release date of the box-set will be confirmed next week but while we wait, you can mull over The Gouster's track-listing.
