A 25-minute audio clip taken from his 'Outside' tour is now on Soundcloud
A rehearsal tape from David Bowie's 1995 'Outside' tour has resurfaced on Soundcloud.
USA Today called the tour commercial suicide, as Bowie declined to play nearly any of his hits and opted to play material from an album that was released only a couple weeks after the tour began. Additionally, the artist rarely even performed in front of his fans on the tour, as Bowie reported "almost 100%" of the audiences came to see his tourmates Nine Inch Nails.
After reuniting with his Berlin Trilogy collaborator Brian Eno to record Outside, Bowie wanted to perform shows that matched the adventurous spirit of his fortcoming album. He also wanted to convert a new audience of young fans among the NIN faithful.
While Bowie did perform cuts from his backlog, he skipped tracks such as 'Rebel Rebel' in favour of lesser known material such as 'Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)' and Low's 'Breaking Glass', both of which appear on the rehearsal tape.
