He left earth too soon but the icon will be back on the big screen in restored glory.
The 40th anniversary of Bowie's first cinematic role The Man Who Fell to Earth is fast approaching.
Originally released in 1976, The Man Who Fell to Earth will roll out in English cinemas nationwide on September 9 for a limited time only. The Nicolas Roeg directed feature see Bowie as Thomas Jerome Newton, an alien that travels to Earth to retrieve water for the drought that affects his home. Starring alongside Candy Clark as a hotel clerk he falls in love with while trying to carry out his mission, Clark adorned with the late Bowie with nothing but praise; “David loved to run dialogue, which was a key component of how I needed to work. We’d run it backwards and forwards. He wanted to get it perfect. We’d wrap a scene and instead of going off to rest, we’d start running dialogue on the next scene that was coming up while the crew was setting up the shot. And the dialogue in this film was so good, none of us wanted to improvise a word.”
The restoration of The Man Who Fell to Earth took place over 2015 thanks to Studiocanal. The screening is expected to roll out in the US and Germany also so hopefully we'll see it over on our shores too.
