The social networking site doesn't like naked ladies sitting in baths of fish!
Cork singer-songwriter Daniel Jones has had the cover art of his debut Forever, In Disguise album banned by MySpace for “violating our terms of use. Common reasons for image rejections include nudity, violent or offensive material or copyright infringement.”
Forever, In Disguise’s main cover image is ‘Koi Bath’, a painting by Charmain Fitzgerald, which depicts a naked lady in a bath of fish.
Describing MySpace’s decision as “ridiculous”, Fitzgerald adds: “It’s a fine piece of art, not a pornographic image. Countless fine art pieces & renaissance pieces contain nudity, but they key is the manner in which it is communicated. It's done in an aesthetic way – you don't even notice the nudity to be honest. The image of that painting plus others I've done of nude models are on many reputable sites.”
Jones professes to being just as surprised by the social networking site’s decision.
“Oh well, there goes my plan for the full page advertising spread in The Irish Catholic!” he laughs. “The artwork, like the music, is tasteful and interesting. To paraphrase Dylan, ‘even the President of MySpace sometimes has to stand naked!’”
Forever, In Disguise is released here on April 30 through Index Records.
