Divine Providence
RHODE ISLAND QUINTET’S LP TICKS ALL THE RIGHT BOXES
Prolific (and seemingly reformed) alt. country types Deer Tick return to the fray with their fourth album in five years with a bid to capture their raw and rocking live sound. A wonderfully ragged affair from start to finish, you can almost hear the blood, sweat and beers being spilt on the likes of ‘Funny Word’ and the Rolling Stones-indebted ‘Main Street’. The strutting punk rock salvo of ‘Let’s All Go To Bar’ is as raucous as a night out with Shane MacGowan in his prime. ‘Clowning Around’ and ‘Electric’ add a little darkness to Divine Providence and the more introspective sounds compliment the balls to the wall brilliance of ‘Something To Brag About’ perfectly. Check this out.
