New Irish charity download site launches

Minus Circus, Mark Geary and Luan Parle are among those supporting Music Box For Life.Com

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 22 Jul 2009

Mark Geary, Minus Circus, Luan Parle, Colin Devlin, Cactus World News, Reemo, The Kinetiks and The Coronas are among the musicians supporting Our Lady’s Hospital For Sick Children in Crumlin by donating tracks, many of them exclusives, to musicboxforlife.com.

Over 40 songs will be available for paid download at the start of September, with every cent of the money going directly to the hospital.

“There are no commissions, handling fees or any other type of deduction,” stresses Music Box For Life’s Noel Taylor who is joint founder of the venture with Sydney-based musician Gerry Scullion, a.k.a. Minus Circus. “We considered releasing a physical CD or putting on a benefit, but that’s all been done before. It also costs a lot and we don’t want overheads to take from people’s generous support. By doing this digitally, it’s global, easily accessible and can evolve into a permanent but changing musical feast for supporters and a permanent revenue stream for the kids.”

It already looks like Taylor, who manages Luan Parle, and Scullion have a winner on their hands.

“We threw the idea out there a few weeks and have been absolutely staggered by the response,” Noel enthuses. “It’s mostly independent artists at the moment, but we’ve also got some major label acts who’ll be coming on board once all the copyright issues are resolved.”

Artists interested in getting involved should contact noeltaylor@utvinternet.com.
