The Irishman returns, "Baby we done it, break out the red panties!"
It appears the UFC have relented from their initial position of pulling the Notorious one off UFC 200, and are allowing the featherweight champion Conor McGregor back on the fight card.
At 6:46am this morning, Conor tweeted "Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200! Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect"
It's been a topsy-turvy week for the UFC. At the 'Go Big' press conference on April 21, Dana White emphatically denied that McGregor would be allowed back on UFC 200. "How would it be fair to all these guys who've come in from all around the world," he stated, pointing at individual fighters that had flown in from Poland and Brazil. Nate Diaz then remarked that if he didn't get to fight the Irishman he was "going on holiday".
The UFC has been scrambling for the past week to find a replacement headliner for 200. The anticipated return of longtime champion George St-Pierre looks highly unlikely, Diaz's refusal to fight another opponent and the injury to Daniel Cormier, means that the most likely replacement fight of Jones versus Cormier, is out the window. By sure boldness and luck, Conor has seized his opportunity to quash the biggest MMA fight promotion in the world.
The UFC have not confirmed the Crumlin fighter's return yet. Is this possibly one of the most audacious attempts at chancing your arm we've ever seen, or are the UFC letting Conor bask in the online glory of his negotiation victory over the fight promotion. Only time will tell.
