Ohio noise rockers benefit from some Albini magic
Operating under their newfound ethos that outsider rock music should be as dark and ugly as a delve inside Jeffrey Dahmer’s fridge, Ohio-based Cloud Nothings have really come out swinging on their second record Attack On Memory. Released a mere year after they launched their relatively sunny in comparison self-titled debut, the opus was recorded by seminal knob-twiddler Steve Albini and his skuzzy hands are all over the likes of album opener ‘No Future/No Past’ and ‘Separation.’ Sounding a little like dearly departed fellow noise rockers Solar Race in places, the alt. punk fizz of ‘Fall In’ and ‘Our Plans’ sits perfectly beside the nine minute fuzz-fest of ‘Wasted Days’. This is the good shit.
