The bumper Hot Press Annual out today includes an equally bumper interview with our Man of the Year Nile Rodgers in which he talks about possible hook-ups with The Edge (Who wouldn’t want to work with the guy from U2 who’s responsible for that guitar
sound?); his young pal Avicii (You’d think it was like me and David Bowie. The intensity’s exactly the same, only he has a computer and I have a guitar); ‘Get Lucky’ (“Daft Punk said to me, ‘Nile, let’s imagine the internet doesn’t exist. What kind of record will we do?’”) and Johnny Marr (“When his son was born, Johnny covered his ears and walked him outside to his car and stuck in a cassette so the first song he heard was a Chic one!”
He also recalls his halcyon ‘70s days hanging with the 13-year-old Michael Jackson.
“I was a mad out of control hippie with a big green electric Afro back then,” Nile reminisces fondly. “I used to read him hippy comics – y’know, the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and stuff – and we’d talk about growing pot."
Add in Diana Ross, Woodstock and partying in Studio 54 and you're talking a serious stroll through the rock 'n' disco decades.
