Fake fur is flying as Australian dog owners try to circumnavigate a controversial new law.
Good news for Dobermans that need to lie low for a bit. In a display of MacGyver-like ingenuity, the folk at www.attackchi.org.au have come up with an Ultra Poodle Disguise Kit for pointy-eared pooches.
Like their Golden Retriever and Old English Sheepdog Disguise Kits for German Shepherds and Mastiffs, it comprises of fake fur ankle, body, head and tail pieces, an under harness, duct tape and non-toxic face paint.
The reason for this doggie subterfuge is the Breed Specific Legislation, which has just been introduced in the Australian state of Queensland. Under the terms of the controversial law, severe restrictions have been placed on the ownership of over a dozen different breeds.
“BSL amounts to canine ethnic cleansing,” fumes one of their message board posters. “Responsible owners are being treated like criminals based on their dogs’ breed rather than the individual merit of the dog.”
Leaving aside the broader issue, Caught In The Net thinks the www.attackchi.org.au Doberman looks super-cool with his Afro.
From there it’s but a mere mouse-click to www.tin-soldier.com/irishwar.htm, a veritable Mecca for pro-Republican kidults.
“The capture of suspected terrorist Michael Brennan causes a commotion in the little town of Cairncross,” reads the commentary that goes with their recreation of the Anglo-Irish War. “An angry mob begins to form. ‘Get in the truck you fucking bogtrotter!’”
To help you recreate this historic moment, the American company behind the site, Reviresco, are offering hand-crafted sets of Irish Civilians, British Infantry, Black And Tans, Royal Irish Constabulary, IRA, Gangsters and – our favourite – Flappers & Dandies.
There’s shooting of a different kind to be had at www.soulfluff.com, the online home of Belfast photographer Iona Bateman whose work is currently being exhibited locally in the Waterfront Hall. Connoisseurs of sweaty rock star torsos should proceed immediately to the Razorlight and Babyshambles sections where Messrs. Borrell and Doherty both feature sans shirts.
10” x 8” prints of all of the photos featured are available for a not unreasonable tenner.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to www.tomcruiseisnuts.com (Ah, leave the poor chap alone!); lba.12.forumer.com (Limerick band archive); and www.gnoosic.com (expand your musical horizons).
