A 25-year-old German is going to great lengths – and heights – to stay out of prison.
Common wisdom has it that Germans are dull and unimaginative, but how many other nationalities would have the chutzpah to try and avoid a 15-month jail sentence by squatting on top of a 22-metre high communications tower?
“Fred Gregor, a 45-year-old lathe operator, was convicted by a court last May on fraud charges,” reads the report. “A man had accused Gregor of selling him a laptop computer online, but all he received in the mail was a box of sand. The German legal system is not unfamiliar with George. He has a number of previous run-ins with the law, including the setting up of an internet site on which his wife stripped.
“Gregor has US military surplus provisions and a sleeping bag that will allow him to brave temperatures down to -40 degrees Celsius. As for his toilet needs, those are being taken care of through a system of bags and pulleys.”
Back on terra firma, and Fight Club-ers will be delighted to hear that www.kravmagaireland.com is offering courses in “the same devastating self-defence and hand-to-hand combat skills as the Israeli Special Forces. Krav Maga was developed in an environment where violence, especially political violence, reigned.”
Given his pathetic display of pugilism at Anfield, we reckon Paul Scholes should sign-up pronto.
From there it’s but a mere mouse-click to find out detaills of the recent Underwater Ice Hockey World Championships in Austria.
“Players competed under 12 inches of ice without tanks,” the report starts.
All of which is eminently sensible compared to the pizza tin with a burnt Virgin Mary on it that can be viewed at www.houstonist.com/archives/2007/02/26/baking_with_the.php.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to www.malevole.com/mv/misc/killerquiz (can you spot the mass murderer among the IT employees?); tunteella.org/4chans/11640447301345125.jpg (we have absolutely no idea what’s going on); and filmcow.com/charlietheunicorn.html (apparently students love it).
